An act of depression can consist of several things. If you suspect your spouse or a family member is depressed there are a few signs and symptoms to look for. Several of those symptoms include insomnia, overeating or not eating, not working on hobbies, no energy, and headaches that don't respond to treatment.
An act of depression can be considered overeating. Some people who are entirely depressed overeat as a way to treat themselves and they don't even notice the change in their eating habits. The problem is that they are so depressed, they don't care about the weight gain and the problems they could cause with their health. Another act of depression is the opposite, not eating at all. You might notice the person is losing an extensive amount of weight and looking very unhealthy. They should get help.
Insomnia is a common act of depression and a sign because the person is unable to sleep, maybe stressed along with the depression and chain smoking or pacing the floor throughout the night.
You might notice that a person that is depressed doesn't work on their hobbies anymore or take interest in the fun things that they used to. They may sit around not doing much at all and seem as if they have no energy. They might even complain of not having any energy.
Some signs of depression include headaches that won't go away. The person might have seen a doctor repeatedly, even had a CAT scan because the doctor feared a tumor might have been present and tried every medication on the market but the headaches won't go away.
When you sense an act of depression, you should recommend that your friend seek treatment. There is help out there and no one should have to be depressed all of the time. Many times, people have no control over their depression because they might have a chemical imbalance causing it and they need medication. For some people, a simple pill can change their outlook on life entirely.
If you notice your spouse or a family member with signs of an act of depression, you should recommend that they see someone. It might be the best thing you ever did.
