There are many common signs and symptoms of depression. Depression is a mood disorder that can affect someone's normal daily activities. Several of the signs and symptoms of depression include a depressed mood, sleep disturbances, impaired thinking, weight changes, low self-esteem, suicidal, and loss of interest in sex.

The depressed mood may cause the person to mope, walk around feeling sad, and hopeless. They may have spells of crying that lasts for a while and they might not even know why they are crying or have a valid reasoning.

Sleep disturbances are common signs and symptoms of depression and they can include sleeping all of the time or sleeping for short periods at a time. They might go long periods without sleep and then sleep for several days.

Impaired thinking includes the inability to think rationally and make sound decisions. The person might have problems with their memory. They also might have difficulty concentrating on reading even a short article and be able to recite what they just read.

Weight changes are common. You might see a person overeating when they are depressed and experience a rapid weight gain. This might be because the person is subconsciously trying to treat their depression with food. It is common. Other people may not eat at all when they are depressed. Then you will see the person lose abnormal amounts of weight quickly. They will begin to look unhealthy.

Another one of the many signs and symptoms of depression include loss of interest in sex. Lack of excitement toward their spouse and difficulty getting aroused.

A person's self-esteem is often low. Sometimes so low the person is contemplating suicide. This is when depression can be dangerous if it is not treated.

Depression can be treated. There are several treatment methods that are natural or by medication, whichever you prefer to get you out of the low that you are in. You can be happy.

Signs and symptoms of depression should be acknowledged and paid attention to closely. If depression gets too bad, then the person must get professional help. Sometimes, that is the only way to treat it.
